The College of Life Science and Technology was founded in December 25, 2003. Through the joint efforts of faculty and students, The College has become a well-recognized center for scientific research and student training in China.

  The college offers complete academic programs of BS, MS and Ph.D. degrees. The college has 3 Undergraduate Programs, 4 Master-degree Programs and 1 Ph.D Program, along with the National Energy biorefinery research and development center, Beijing Key Laboratory of bioprocess, Research Center of biorefinery of Ministry of Education, and Beijing University of Chemical Technology - biotechnology transfer Center in Xiamen.

   The College has now 66 full-time faculties, including members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Cheung Kong Scholars, winners of the National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars, chief Scientists in the National 973 Program (State Key Fundamental Research Program in China), winners of New Century Excellent Talents in University (NCET), and winners of Beijing Nova program. Many prominent scientists from both China and abroad have been invited as either affiliate professors or visiting professors to the college.

 The main research areas of the college are bioengineering, synthetic biology, bio-based chemicals, bio-energy, modernization of Chinese medicine and drug development. Since its founding, the college has received 2 National Science and Technology Invention Awards, 1 National Science and Technology Progress Award and 16 Science and Technology Progress awards at Ministry and Provincial level.
