Research Interest:

Professor Yuan obtained the distinctive and remarkable achievements in the fields of biological synthesis and highly efficient separation of natural active compounds. According to the product’s function, structure, source and the advanced biological technology, new synthesis approaches were designed. According to the product’s structure, the key techniques were investigated. Based on the proposed scientific problems, the basic and applied researches were carried on, and the unit operations and system integration technologies were developed. Then further industrialization researches were carried on to achieve the effectively utilized industry of biomass resources. Related specifics are as follows:

(1) Synthetic design and process intensification of target product:

   A) design and intensification of enzymatic transformation: enzymatic production of ellagic acid, two-step enzymatic production of sulforaphane;

    B) metabolic engineering on the biosynthesis of lycopene;

   C) design and intensification of heterologous biosynthetic pathway: heterologous synthesis of artemisic acid, bioconversation of 5-hydroxyl tryptophan.

(2) Research on the key separation technology of target product:

   A) multi-level continuous reflux extraction technology and equipment;

   B) special separation medium preparation and application of natural active compounds;

   C) mechanism and application of membrane recovery of organic solvent.

(3) Research on systemic integration technology to industrialize:

   A) a set of technology and key equipments on the process of soybean;

   B) a set of technology on the process of pomegranate husk;

   C) fermentation production of lycopene.
